Chief Technology Officer at the BMA

A new Chief Technology Officer position at the Baltimore Museum of Art was established to support increasing technology needs. The three year initiative provided BMA staff and visitors with new online tools and resources, both onsite and online, to further the museum’s mission and related programming.

In the gallery, visitors to the new education center enjoyed increased wifi coverage, which was part of the recent comprehensive multi-year renovation with integrated interactive elements for the Imagining Home exhibition. In addition, the museum hosted a Wiki edit-a-thon to add information on Wikipedia about African and African American artists represented in the collection.

The project also included website initiatives to make the permanent collection available online, IT infrastructure, and staff technology advancement to improve communication, security, and wireless monitoring of the gallery conditions for conservation purposes.
